CONWAY, S.C. — For nearly three decades, Gary Gilmore set a standard of excellence for the Coastal Carolina baseball program, leading the Chanticleers to 19 regionals (hosting six), three super regionals and the 2016 national championship. He’ll go down in history as one of the great college baseball coaches of his era — but that era came to a close last spring, when Gilmore retired after leading the Chants to one final postseason appearance.
But the post-Gilmore transition could not have been more smooth, as Kevin Schnall had been waiting in the wings to assume the head coaching job for years.[…]
